My Story
My journey to health and fitness started with an eating disorder at age 15. Anorexia - emotional disorder characterized by an obsessive desire to lose weight by refusing to eat. That was me. I never had body issues before then and something had overcome me at that particular time in my life. I felt I had no control over my life except what I ate. I denied it at first because I didn’t want to be labeled or even noticed for that matter.
By the end of the summer, I had lost 25lbs in 3 months. Of course, my mom and dad were concerned and after they had done all they could do, it was time to see the doctor. The only thing I really remember the doctor saying to me was “If you don’t get help, your organs will shut down and you will die”. Not being in a stable state of mind, I had to process what she said and then finally came to the realization that I had to help myself before they would send me to inpatient treatment. I begged my parents to let me do an outpatient treatment and they agreed. I’m one of the lucky ones that didn’t suffer from this disorder for long because I wanted to get better and beat it.
After a handful of therapists, a lot of research on mental health and nutrition, I was able to learn how to heal myself. Although it took time, effort and my amazing support system, I now have the strength to pave a path for others to follow along behind.
It’s not easy to talk about, but I share my story because I hope that by sharing, I’m able to help some of you who have walked through similar things. So what did I do? I followed my heart and started my own business helping others with their fitness, nutrition and overall wellness. I believe that is my true purpose in life.
